Soccer Teams Learn NCAA First Round Opponents

INDIANAPOLIS — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s and women’s soccer teams advanced to the NCAA Tournaments with titles in the American Southwest Conference Championships on Sunday and they have learned their fate of first round opponents.

The men will have a rematch with Mary Hardin-Baylor on Thursday in Belton. The two teams have played twice this season in Belton already. UMHB won 1-0 in the regular season and the teams played to a draw on Sunday in the ASC title game, with HSU claiming the title on penalty kicks. The winner of Thursday’s game will play at Trinity on Sunday.

The Cowgirls are in the NCAAs for the seventh straight year and for the second straight year the Cowgirls will head to California for the first weekend of the tournament. No. 17 HSU (18-1) will face No. 4 Puget Sound (18-1) in the first round at Claremont Mudd Scripps Universities in Claremont, Calif. In the other game, CMS will play host to UC-Santa Cruz. The winners will play on Sunday for the right to advance to the sectional round.
