ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' baseball team moved to 4-0 on the year with a 12-6 win over East Texas Baptist in non-conference action at Hunter Field on Friday night.
The Cowboys trailed 6-1 early in the game but rallied for the win.
ETBU scored four runs on four hits in the second inning. Michael Cox had a two-run double and Lance Anding had an RBI groundout. Kristopher Carroll added an RBI single. ETBU scored two more runs in the third inning on a solo home run by Wostal and a squeeze bunt by Cox.
HSU busted open the game in the sixth inning with seven runs. Freshman Cody Jarboe hit his first career home run to lead off the inning. Brian Weeks and Andrew Rehling each had a two-run singles and then Jarboe hit again and had a two-run single.
HSU had 12 hits in the game and did not have an error.
Cody Sillivent worked a three inning save for the Cowboys. He allowed just one hit in his three innings. He worked in relief of Sam Walker, who settled in after a shaky start and went six innings. He struck out five batters and allowed seven hits and six runs, but improved to 2-0 on the year.
Chad Cox took the loss for ETBU, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs in five and one-third innings.
Edwards had three hits for HSU and Jarboe and Edwards drove in three runs each. Stephen Wostal, Ryan Yezak and Spencer Copeland had two hits each for ETBU.
HSU is 4-0 and ETBU fell to 2-1. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
