ABILENE, Texas — Five Hardin-Simmons diamond sport players have been named to the Capital One/College Sports Information Director’s of America college division academic all-district VI teams for baseball and softball.
Jay Hiller (3.79 in Athletic Training) and Andrew Rehling (3.77 in Business/Marketing), both outfielders for the Cowboys, were elected as first-team selections on the baseball all-district team and Kelsey Evans a softball outfielder with a 4.0 GPA as a pre-physical therapy major was named to the first team. All three will go on the ballot for Academic All-American honors.
Senior first baseman Taylor Berlin (3.39 in Geology) and senior pitcher Sam Walker (3.77 in Marketing) were named second team all-district.
HSU was the only ASC team to have a first-team selection on the baseball team and HSU’s four total selections in baseball were the most of any school in the district.
The CoSDIA academic all-district awards are a longtime tradition of CoSIDA that recognizes the top student-athletes for their achievements on and off the field. The awards take in GPA as well as playing credentials and are voted on by the SIDs around the district.
District VI consists of schools in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. The college division takes in schools across NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior Colleges. To be eligible, students must have better than a 3.30 GPA and be a full-time contributor to the team’s success.
