Cowboys Lose To Tarleton State

 

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped a non-conference game to Tarleton State, 9-3, on Tuesday evening at Hunter Field. 

Both teams went with the pitcher by committee. Taylor Christian of Tarleton (2-1) earned the win with a scoreless fifth inning. Eric Zamora allowed seven runs (four earned) in the fourth inning to take the loss and fall to 0-4 on the year. Parker Robinson and Tyler Brunnemann four innings of hitless relief for the Cowboys.

HSU took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Troy Tarrant tripled home Jay Hiller and then Andrew Rehling had a sacrifice fly to bring home Tarrant.

Tarleton tied the game with two runs in the second inning. One of the runs scored on an error and the other when the Cowboys turned a double play.

Tarleton took control of the game with a seven-run fourth inning. Ryan Small had a two-run double, Noah Ringenberger had an RBI double, Garrett Hardy had an RBI single and Landon Thompson had an RBI groundout. HSU committed two errors in the inning.

HSU scored a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Chris Matthews.

Tarrant led the Cowboys with three hits. Ringenberger and Blake Silguero each had two hits for Tarleton State.

HSU is now 15-15 on the year and Tarleton improved to 15-16. HSU will return to conference action this weekend at Texas Lutheran.
