Cowboys Drop Doubleheader To LeTourneau

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader to LeTourneau on Saturday at Hunter Field, falling 10-2 in the first game and losing 9-8 in the nightcap.

Game 1

LeTourneau took the first game by pounding out 13 hits in a 10-2 win.

Gonzalo Sosa and Carson Dickey had RBI singles for LeTourneau in the first inning and Will Bradshaw and Bubba Valdez had RBIs in the third. Cade Johnson cut it to 5-1 with an RBI in the second.

Tyler Bradshaw had a sacrifice fly in the fourth for the Cowboys. LeTourneau added two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

Cade Johnson had two of the five HSU hits. Eli Birriel had three hits to pace LeTourneau.

Taylor McMackin (1-3) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in one-plus innings. Andrew Hernandez, John Clift and Justin Adams worked in relief for the Cowboys.

Bryce Brueggemeyer earned the win for LeTourneau allowing two runs on four hits in four and one-third innings. He is now 1-3 on the year. Nate Helker worked two and two-third innings of scoreless relief.

Game 2

In the second game, LeTourneau had an 8-2 lead in the seventh inning before the Cowboys made a rally.

Gonzalo Sosa had an RBI groundout in the first, Carson Dickey hit a two-run home run in the second, Noah Mahoney an RBI triple in the fifth, Dickey added a two-run home run in the fifth and Will Bradshaw had a two-run double in the seventh.

HSU scored a pair of runs on the third on a two-out throwing error with the bases loaded.

In the seventh inning, the Cowboys scored five runs. Cody Berryman and Hunter Garrison had two-run doubles and Jamie Dominguez had an RBI single.

LeTourneau scored on a Valdez single in the eighth to make it 9-7 and Berryman had a sacrifice fly in the eighth. HSU got the first two runners on in the ninth but couldn't get the winning run home.

Jacob Jones led LeTourneau with four hits. Carson Dickey had a pair of two-run home runs and Bubba Valdez had three hits. Luke Ludwig went six innings to improve to 3-0 and Kolton Eberlan worked the final two innings in relief for his third save.

Garrison had three hits and drove in two runs and Tople, Cooling and Dominguez added three hits. Chandler Carter took the loss allowing six runs in four and one-third innings. Gunny Evans, Eric Denby and Hayden Day all worked in relief.

The Cowboys are now 4-8 overall and 3-3 in ASC play. LeTourneau improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. HSU will host Schreiner on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
