Cowboys Fall Short At Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 2-1 loss at Schreiner on Tuesday afternoon.

Jeffrey Williams gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single.

The Cowboys tied the game with a John Tople RBI single up the middle in the third inning. Williams gave the Mountaineers a run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly that proved to be the difference in the game.

Taylor Cooling and Jamie Dominguez had two hits each for the Cowboys and Josh Gilliam and Reece Hohertz had two each for the Mountaineers.

The Cowboys received a solid pitching performance from freshman Chase Buchannan in his Cowboy debut. He worked four innings and allowed just one run on three hits. Jordan Young worked the fifth inning and allowed one run to take the loss. John Clift worked three scoreless innings for HSU.

The Mountaineers used five different pitchers. Caleb Allen won the game with three innings of scoreless relief. Payton Stanford had his eighth save of the year.

HSU is now 11-23 on the year and Schreiner improved to 12-23. HSU will host UT-Dallas this weekend in ASC play.
