Cowboys Rally at Texas Lutheran
SEGUIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team rallied for a 62-56 win at Texas Lutheran on Thursday evening in American Southwest Conference action at Memorial Gym in Seguin.
The Cowboys took a quick 3-0 lead, but TLU used a 22-4 run to take a 22-7 lead with 8:42 to play in the first half. HSU received a 3-pointer from Matt Addison and back-to-back 3-pointers from John Derr to cut the deficit to 24-18 with 5:12 to play in the first half. TLU led 29-24 at halftime.
In the second half, TLU led 39-34 when HSU used a 7-2 spurt to tie the game at 41-41. TLU led 51-45 with 5:49 to play, but HSU went on a 12-0 run that was capped by a Derr 3-pointer with 1:12 to play to make it 57-51. HSU held on in the final minute to preserve the win.
Derr and Addison had 18 points each for the Cowboys as HSU played 12 players in the game. .
Michael Flores led Texas Lutheran with 14 points and Isaac Williams had 13 (all in the first half).
HSU committed 26 turnovers, including 10 by Addison and TLU scored 24 points off those turnovers. HSU made up for it with a 47-30 advantage on the backboards and HSU held TLU to 33 percent shooting.
The Cowboys are now 16-4 overall and 13-3 in ASC action. Texas Lutheran fell to 9-11 overall and 8-8 in ASC play. HSU will play at Schreiner on Saturday at 1 p.m.
