Cowboys Roll By Mountaineers, 93-72
ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team rebounded from a buzzer-beating loss in the opener to roll over Schreiner 93-72 on Thursday evening at the Mabee Gym.

Senior Nathaniel Jack had a career-best 25 points and added 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals to pace the Cowboys and fellow senior Christian O'Neal tied his career-high with 23 points to pace the Cowboys.

HSU trailed 14-10 when Duane Hopper scored eight straight points for the Cowboys to take a 18-15 lead. Hopper hit a lay-up and a pair of 3-pointers in the run. HSU pushed the lead out 30-22 for its biggest lead of the first half but Schreiner used a 14-3 run to take a 34-33 lead with 1:08 to play in the half. HSU scored the final five points of the half for a 38-34 halftime lead.

The Cowboys pushed the lead out to 60-42 on an O'Neal jumper with 12:29 to play and the Cowboys held a big lead the rest of the way.

HSU used an aggressive defense that forced 23 turnovers and HSU had a 24-2 advantage in points off turnovers.

Jared Thompson led Schreiner with 17 points and Phillip Kee added 14 off the bench.
Schreiner hung around with an 18-for-22 effort at the foul line in the first half. In the second half, SU was just 1-for-6 at the foul line.

The Cowboys are now 1-1 on the year and Schreiner fell to 0-2. HSU hosts Texas Lutheran at 4 p.m. on Saturday in a rematch of the first round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
