ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 86-69 to Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference action on Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys came out hot and played one of their best stretches of the season. The Cowboys led 10-2 and pushed the lead out to 20-10 before the Lobos battled back. Sul Ross took its first lead at the 4:45 mark of the first half on a 3-pointer by B.J. Hollis.
HSU tied it one more time but never led the rest of the way. HSU trailed 40-37 at halftime. The Lobos pushed their lead out to 10 at the 15:48 mark and continued to build.
Gary Ringo led a balanced attack with 15 points off the bench. Caleb Thomasson had 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Cowboys are now 8-15 on the year and 6-9 in league play. Sul Ross State improved to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in ASC action. The Cowboys host Howard Payne on Saturday at 4 p.m. and would clinch a berth in the ASC Tournament with a win.
