Feaster Named ASC Offensive Player of the Year

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons junior quarterback Justin Feaster became the sixth HSU player in league history to be named the American Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year as he and 17 others Cowboys were honored by the league's coaches.

Feaster led a Cowboy offense that was tops in the league and is ranked fourth nationally. Fesater has thrown for 2,717 yards and 27 touchdowns. Seven players off the offense were named to the first-team.

Feaster and favorite targets --  slotback Mychal Carrillo, split end ZaVious Robbins and tight end Jerrad Grisham all earned first-team honors. Senior offensive linemen Ryan Hunter, Glenn Revell and Brian Fitzgearld also were named to the first team. Carrillo had 77 catches for 1003 yards and 11 touchdowns. Robbins had 39 catches for 639 yards and eight touchdowns and Grisham had 16 catches for 342 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Cowboys have made a huge turnaround and the leader of the defense Matt Warnasch was named first-team all-ASC. He leads the ASC with 100 tackles on the year.

Robbins was named the tri-ASC Athlete Player of the Year and Jimmie Keeling was named the ASC co-Coach of the Year.

HSU had three players named to the second team in running back Josh Stephens, Robbins as a kick returner and defensive end Hank Hornsby.

Guard Cody Honeycutt, running back Derrick Grant and placekicker Matt Fields were offensive players named honorable mention.  Ricky Poe, Shelton Rainey, Michael Tracy and Richard Carlisle were all named honorable mention on the defensive side of the ball.  

HSU went 9-1 on the year and 7-1 in ASC play. The Cowboys will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday in the NCAA Playoffs.
