10 Football Players Honored By ASC

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' football team had three players named first-team All-American Southwest Conference and 10 players honored overall by the head coaches in the ASC in the yearly postseason awards.

Offensive tackle Koby Parker and running back Steven Rockwell along with defensive end Hank Hornsby were named first-team all-league selections for the Cowboys.

Parker was one of the mainstays on an offensive line that juggled throughout the season. He was a punishing blocker while playing both tackle positions during the year. Rockwell ran for 711 yards and five touchdowns and averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Hornsby was third on the team with 62 tackles, including a team best 12 for losses and he also led the team with 6.5 sacks.

Slot back Thomas Labian, running back Derrick Grant and offensive guard Cody Honeycutt were named to the second team offense and linebacker Paul Girard and safety Michael Tracy were named to the second team defense.

Kicker Alex Wymore and senior receiver Justice Baker were named honorable mention All-ASC selections.

Of the 10 players honored by the ASC, seven will be back for the Cowboys next year. HSU went 6-4 in 2009 and recorded its 18^th straight winning season, by winning its final five games.

Quarterback Adam Shaffer and linebacker Quartez Ashmore both of Mississippi College were named the ASC offensive and defensive players of the year. The Choctaws tied with Mary Hardin-Baylor for the league title and claimed the league's automatic bid.
