On behalf of the HSU Parents Group, I would like to welcome the families of all of our returning players, as well the families of the high school seniors who recently committed to be HSU Cowboys to the 2013 Football Season. I know it is only March, but spring football is springing up at campus’ all across the country and HSU is no exception. Very shortly, you will be receiving a letter in the mail explaining in greater detail what the Parents Group is all about and what our goals are for the upcoming year. In the meantime, I wanted to get this quick note up on the website because we have two events scheduled for the middle of April and we need help to carry out some tasks that we have been assigned.
- On Friday April 19th (around 6 p.m.) – the end of spring training will be celebrated with a 7-on-7 competition for the “skinny guys” and a lineman challenge for the “big guys”.
- On Saturday April 20th, the Second Annual Cowboy Luncheon and Auction will take place at 2:30 over at the D1 Abilene Training Facility located at 4351 Ridgemont Drive on the south side of town near the Abilene Mall. This will be a barbecue lunch followed by an auction.
On Friday the 19th, the Parents Group will be selling water at the spring training celebration and then help with the decorating of the banquet room for the luncheon and auction over at the D1 Facility. On Saturday, we will help with the clean up so if you will be attending this event, please don’t be shy about volunteering to help out. The other issue is that the Parents Group has been asked to help find items for the auction. Last year, auction items included hunting trips, barbecue pits, vacations, jewelry, blankets and tons of signed memorabilia from your favorite school and/or professional team. Last year was our first auction and it was a huge success. We are hoping for an even better event this year. Remember, the more items there are to auction, the more money that will be raised to support the football program. If you have any items to donate or you would like to volunteer to help out, you can either contact myself at jeffcrozier@austin.rr.com or Beth Harris at harris3rb@lavernia.net or contact the football office directly.
Please check back to this webpage periodically as this will be used as a major communication tool for the parents group. Over the summer it will be updated monthly but when the season starts, there should be new messages each week, so check often.
Remember to mark your calendars for the April events as they are right around the corner. This is going to be a great year for Cowboy football and I know all of you want to make this as a successful year as possible.
