Sherman Resigns As Golf Coach
ABILENE, Texas — David Sherman, who has spent 11 seasons as the Hardin-Simmons men’s and women’s golf coach, has resigned his position.
“We are grateful for David Sherman’s effort and energy that he has devoted to Hardin-Simmons University,” said HSU Director of Athletics John Neese. “We wish him the best of luck as he makes this transition.”
During his tenure both the men and the women have been
nationally ranked at some point. His women’s team made the
NCAA Tournament four times and placed eighth in 2006 and seventh in
2001.
He also took two players as individuals to the NCAA Tournament:
Kristi Martin (2007) and Chris Phillips (2006).
Under his watch, 31 players were named All-ASC and four players
were named All-American: Chris Phillips, Sherri Bowden, Meredith
(Hare) Stone and Allison Hall. He was named the district coach of
the year for women in 2004 and 2006. Kristi Martin and Ryan Salinas
each won conference medalist honors.
