Cowboys Win Sixth Straight ASC Game

BROWNWOOD, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won its sixth straight American Southwest Conference game with a 4-2 win over Howard Payne on Friday afternoon in Brownwood.

HSU fell behind on a goal by the Jackets' Patrick Barker in the 33rd minute but HSU scored just five minutes later to square the match when Bray den Ellingon crossed a ball into the box and Kevin McNeal finished it for his first career goal.

HSU took the lead in the 52nd minute at 2-1 when Chris Hunter found Zach Johnson for a goal, but HPU came right back and tied it less than four minutes later on a Shane Cazad tally.

The Cowboys took the lead for good when Cole McCarter knocked in a loose ball from the top of the box at the 59:12 mark to make it 3-2. Tyler Murray scored on a pass from Hunter at 66:42 to give the Cowboys an insurance goal and set up the final scoring margin.

Logan Waters had four saves and earned the win in goal and Kyle Huessing and Ryan Young shared the game in net for Howard Payne.

HSU outshot HPU 19-15 overall and 8-6 on goal.

With the win the Cowboys are now 6-3-3 and 6-1-1 in ASC action. Howard Payne fell to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in league play. HSU plays at rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
