Cowboys Tie LeTourneau In ASC Opener

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons men's soccer team recorded a 1-1 tie in the American Southwest Conference opener with LeTourneau on Thursday at the HSU Soccer Complex.

The Cowboys got on the board when freshman Shayne Bryan, who had just checked into the game seconds earlier, connected off a Jorge Cerrillo throw in to give HSU a 1-0 lead at the 33:07 mark.

LeTourneau's Edgar Sanchez tied the game up in the 50th minute off an Eduardo Barron assist.

The game remained tied through regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods and finished as a tie.

Freshman goalkeeper Trent Ivy was solid in goal for the Cowboys as he had 10 saves in the game. Miguel Cabrera had seven saves for LeTourneau.

The game was a back-and-forth affair as LeTourneau outshot the Cowboys 20-16 and had a 11-8 advantage in shots on goal.

HSU played from the 77th minute on a man down after Cerrillo received a red card (it was his second yellow of the contest).

The Cowboys are 1-1-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in ASC play. LeTourneau is 0-4-3 on the year and 0-2-1 in conference play. HSU will play East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 4:30.
