HSU Goes 1-2 at ACU Indoor

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis teams opened their season with a 1-2 weekend at the Abilene Christian Indoor Tournament.
The Cowboys lost the opener to Division UT-Pan American, 6-3. Ryan Waters and Justin Lockaby teamed to win the No. 1 doubles by a pro set score of 8-3. Veterans Wes Kidd and Doug Eckstein were the only Cowboys to manage wins in singles play.
HSU then defeated NAIA school Oklahoma Christian by a score of 6-3. Waters and Lockaby won at No. 2 doubles and Eckstein and Wade Morgan won at No. 3 doubles.
Waters, Roy Lehman, Lockaby and Ramon Aguire all won their singles matches at No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 respectively. Lockaby and Aguire each came from a set down to win in third sets.
In the final match against Abilene Christian the nationally-ranked Division II Wildcats won all nine matches. The two teams played pro sets after the match was decided.
HSU will take the weekend off before returning to American Southwest Conference action on Feb. 24 at Alpine.
