Cowboys Place Third in ASC

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s track and field team finished third with 116 points in the American Southwest Conference Championship that HSU hosted on Friday and Saturday.

Senior thrower Brendon Kelso won the top scorer of the meet and was named to the All-ASC team. He won the discus with a 141-08 and the shot put 44-07.5. He also finished second in the javelin and third in the hammer throw.

The Cowboys throwers had a big weekend. In the hammer throw, Kyle Pinkerton, Kelso and Adam Clark finished second, third and fourth respectively. Pinkerton threw 139-08, Kelso threw 135-08 and Clark threw 130-10.

Kelso finished second in the javelin with a throw of 180-10. Jacob Wade and Clark finished 10th and 11th in the javelin. Pinkerton and Clark each threw 117 and finished ninth and 10th. Clark was fourth with a 41-1 throw in the shot put. Pinkerton threw 36 feet to finish sixth.

Patrick Neville finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 19-0.75.

Matt Buchhorn finished third in the 10,000 with a 36:16.61. Kameron Hartfield finished third with a 10:46.60 in the 3000 steeplechase.Buchhorn finished fourth in the 5,000 with a 17:06.

In the 4x100 the Cowboys team of George Calsadillas, Patrick Neville, Matt Rodriguez and Jose Bolanos finished second with a 43.86. In the 4x400, Calsadillas, Rodriguez, Neville and Josh Malacara finished second with a 3.25.82.

Hartfield finished third in the 1500 with a 4:23.58 and Adrian Parker placed sixth with a 4:38.37. Calsadillas ran a 51.12 to finish fourth in the 400. Malacara ran a 2:08.45 to finish eighth in the 800. Parker and Hartfield finished 10th and 11th with 2:09.48 and 2:11.19 respectively.

Daniel Kirby finished fourth in the 400 hurdles with a 1:02.57 and Bolanos finished sixth with a  1:05.08. Rodriguez finished fourth in the 200 with a 21.87.
