McMurry Takes Early Lead At ASC Track Meet
ABILEN E, Texas -- McMurry’s men and women have taken the first day advantage at the American Southwest Confernece Track and Field Championship that is being held at the Hardin-Simmons Track Complex in Abilene.
McMurry’s men, who came in ranked No. 1 in the nation, has a narrow two-point lead over Texas-Tyler in the men’s standing 68-66. Hardin-Simmons is third with 44 points, Mississippi College has 20 points, Texas-Tyler is fifth with eight points, followed by Sul Ross State had six points and Concordia finished with five points.
In the women’s standing, McMurry has 80 points, 10 points better than Texas Lutheran. Hardin-Simmons is third with 39 points, Sul Ross State has 12 points, Mississippi College has four points and Concordia has two points.
Breanna Burton-Anderon won the women’s long jump with a leap of 18-5 ¼ and Kami Bellah of Hardin-Simmons was second with a jump of 18-4 ¼.Destiny Jones of Texas Lutheran won the triple jump with a jump of 36-10 ¼ and Burton-Anderson jumped 36-05 to finish second.
Felicia Kennedy of McMurry won the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 124-11 and Mackinsey Williams of HSU was second with a throw of 117-10. Brooke Basey of Texas Lutheran won the javelin with a throw of 122-01.
Maloree Kendall won the steeplechase with a run of 12:11.40. Jennifer Cooper of Mississippi College won the women’s 10,000 meters in a time of 42:17.63.
Eric Plamer won the men’s lnog jump with a leap of 22-10. McMurry has the top four finishers. Chris Stonestreet won the hammer throw with a toss of 158-09. HSU finished second through fourth with Kyle Pinkerton, Brendon Kelso and Adam Clark.
Daniel Ellis of McMurry won the javelin with a throw of 187-06. Kelso was second with a throw of 180-10. Jeff Chandler of Texas-Tyler won the 10,000 meters with a time of 35.06.45 and the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10.08.
The event will conclude on Saturday.
