Footer Finishes Ninth At NCAA Championships
CLAREMONT, Calif. — Hardin-Simmons freshman hurdler Derek Footer finished ninth in the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field 110-meter hurdles championship on Saturday afternoon at Claremont Mudd Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.
Footer clipped a hurdle early on and lost his stride and a he ran his season-slowest 15.48. However, qualifying for the NCAA finals as a freshman made school history for Footer.
Justin Johnson of St. Norbert set an NCAA Division III record with a 13.79 to win the event. Junior St. Preaux of McMurry was second with a 14.26.
Footer was the only Cowboy to qualify for the NCAAs this season.
