Cowgirls Advance To Semifnials of ASC Tournament

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons never trailed in a 74-50 win over Louisiana College in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at McMurry's Kimbrell Arena.
Mollie Brawner scored eight quick points as HSU jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the opening minutes of the game and the outcome was never in doubt after that. LC cut the deficit to five at 25-20, but a 9-2 run to end the half gave HSU a 34-22 halftime lead.
HSU's leading scorer Lindsey Newcombe played only nine minutes and did not score in the first half, but HSU continued to build the lead.
After LC, hit the first basket of the second half, HSU scored eight straight points (six of them by Bo Warm) to take a 42-24 lead. HSU pushed the lead to as many as 26 at 70-44. HSU limited LC to 28 percent shooting in the game.
Haylee Allen led the Cowgirls with 19 points and Kristen Harris and Warm each had 13. Tillisha Givens led the Wildcats with 14 points.
HSU moved to 21-5 on the year and LC ends its season with a 16-9 record. The Cowgirls will play Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. UMHB upset ASC East champion UT-Dallas, 57-48 in the first game of the day.
