Cowgirls End Crossover Play With A Win
LONGVIEW, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
women’s basketball team jumped out to a big lead and were
never threatened in a 81-59 win over LeTourneau Saturday afternoon
at the Solheim Center in the final American Southwest Conference
crossover game of the season for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls took advantage of a huge height mismatch and ran out
to a 49-22 halftime lead. HSU had a 20-point lead for most of the
second half but a pesky Yellowjacket team chipped the lead down to
17 before the Cowgirls had a finishing kick to set up the final
margin.
HSU played its bench for more minutes than it has in any game this
season and they responded. Jasmine Lewis had a career-best 14
points, including 12 in the second half. Nine of the 11 available
players played 18 or more minutes for HSU.
The Cowgirls once again had balance with four players hitting
double figures. Lindsey Newcombe had 16 points, Mollie Brawner had
13 points, all in the first half and Haylee Allen had 12
points.
HSU outrebounded LeTourneau 47-35 in the game. It was the sixth
time in seven games that the Cowgirls have scored over 80
points.
LeTourneau was led by LaQueda Davis’ 12 points.
HSU improved to 9-3 on the year and to 5-3 in ASC action.
LeTourneau fell to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in ASC action. HSU will
play Schreiner at home on Thursday night in the first of four
straight home games.
