Cowgirls Roll By Schreiner

ABILENE, Texas —
Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team cruised to its third straight win with a 82-69 win over Schreiner, Thursday night at the Mabee Complex in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cowgirl took control of the game in the early going and never trailed. HSU jumped out to a 27-7 lead thanks to a stifling defense. HSU pushed the lead out 34-11, before Schreiner cut the deficit to 38-27 with a 16-4 run. HSU led 40-27 at halftime.

In the second half, the Cowgirls pushed the lead out to as many as 27 at 74-47. Schreiner battled back at the end, finishing the game on a 22-8 run. HSU got big minutes from its bench in the game.

Haylee Allen led the Cowgirls with 20 points and Lindsey Newcombe had 12 points and Kristen Harris chipped in 10. Four other players had at least seven points for the Cowgirls.

HSU limited Schreiner to 36.4 percent shooting and outrebonded them 51-36. HSU shared the basketball well as they had 23 assists on 29 made field goals. HSU hit eight 3-pointers in the game.

Monica Enriquez filled up the stat sheet for Schreiner with 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and eight steals.

HSU improved to 10-3 on the year and 6-3 in league play. Schreiner fell to 0-13 overall and 0-9 in ASC action.
