Brawner Ties School Record With Nine 3-Pointers

ABILENE, Texas —
Mollie Brawner tied a school record with nine 3-pointers as Hardin-Simmons defeated Sul Ross State 83-60 in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Brawner, who hit seven 3-pointers on Thursday against Howard Payne, hit five in the first half and four in the second half. She was 9-for-14 from downtown in the game. She finished with 27 points in the game. The nine 3-pointers ties the ASC record as well.

The winless Lobos put together a good effort in the first 30 minutes as the Cowgirls only led 58-49 with 10-40 to play, but the Cowgirls exploded down the stretch for the win. HSU closed the game on a 15-4 run.

Brawner led three Cowgirls in double figures as Haylee Allen had 13 points, six rebounds and six assists and Lindsey Newcombe had 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Cowgirls shot just 38.7 percent in the game, but the held the Lobos to 34.4 percent shooting.

Lizbeth Pereyra had 16 points for Sul Ross and Angelique Benton had 15.

The win was the sixth straight for the Cowgirls and HSU improved to 13-3 overall and 9-3 in ASC play. Sul Ross State fell to 0-16 overall and 0-12 in conference action. HSU plays at Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor next week.
