Cowgirls Dominate From The Tip Against Texas Lutheran

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
women’s basketball continued its offensive roll as the
Cowgirls ran by Texas Lutheran 94-62 in American Southwest
Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Cowgirls came out on fire as they led 27-6 with 10:35 to play
in the first half. Haylee Allen, Lindsey Newcombe and Mollie
Brawner scored 30 of the Cowgirls first 33 points. Texas Lutheran
was never in the game after that early run.
HSU pushed the lead to as many as 30 points in the first half and
it was more of the same in the second half as the Cowgirls had its
biggest lead at 90-47 with 5:39 to play.
The Cowgirls shot 48.6 percent for the game and limited Texas
Lutheran to 33.3 percent shooting and forced 25 TLU turnovers in
the game. HSU dominated the backboards as well with a 49-36
advantage. HSU is averaging 85.6 points per game over their last
nine games and HSU is 8-1 in that span.
Allen and Brawner had 22 points each for the Cowgirls and both hit
four 3-pointers. Lindsey Newcombe had 18 points and 15 rebounds.
None of the three played more than 22 minutes in the game.
Hardin-Simmons, which has won four straight, moved to 11-3 on the
year and 7-3 in league play. Texas Lutheran fell to 4-10 overall
and 2-8 in league play. HSU will host ASC West leader and defending
national champion Howard Payne at 5:30 on Thursday.
