Cowgirls Win Big On Senior Day

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor, 73-60, in a game that was not as close as the score indicated on senior day at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Cowgirls limited UMHB to 27.4 percent shooting in the game and led by as many as 24 with 3:56 to play. UMHB had its best stretch of the day after the Cowgirls starters had already taken a comfortable seat on the bench, ending the game on a 17-2 run.

HSU led 31-24 at halftime and needed and it was 37-31 with 16:!4 to play, but HSU hit an 18-2 run from the 15:54 mark to the 10:56 mark to put the game away at 55-33. In the run, Mollie Brawner had eight points including a pair of 3-pointers and Bo Warm had five points and four assists.

Lindsey Newcombe once again led the Cowgirls with 22 points and 15 rebounds, Brawner had 20 points and Warm had 12. It was senior day for Brawner and Kristen Harris.

Landie Thompson scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds for UMHB.

HSU improved to 17-4 on the year and to 13-4 in league play. UMHB fell to 10-10 overall and 9-7 in ASC action. HSU will play at Howard Payne on Thursday.
