Cowgirls Win 19th Game Of The Season

KERRVILLE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
women’s basketball team moved to 19-5 on the year with an
83-66 win over Schreiner in American Southwest Conference action on
Thursday night in Kerrville.
Lindsey Newcombe also set the ASC single-season rebounding record
as she pulled down 12 boards. Sara Vestfalls of LeTourneau had the
old record of 305. She is neck-and-neck with Becky Taylor of
UT-Tyler, who also had 305 rebounds on the year going into
Thursday’s action.
The Cowgirls also had a big night from 3-point range as the
Cowgirls hit 9-of-22 shots from behind the arc. Mollie Brawner
broke out of a mini-shooting slump with six 3-pointers.
Brawner led the way with 21 points. Newcombe and Haylee Allen each
had 20 points for the Cowgirls.
Schreiner kept the game close and it was 68-55 with 12:25 to play,
until the Cowgirls used a 17-2 run from the 12:10 mark to the 3:57
mark to put the game out of reach.
Monica Enriquez led four Schreiner players into double figures
with 18 points. Xandria White added 14.
HSU is now 15-5 in league play and Schreiner fell to 2-22 overall
and 2-18 in ASC play. HSU plays at Texas Lutheran on Saturday at 1
p.m. to close out the regular season. The Cowgirls will be looking
for their 20th win for the 11th straight season.
