Brawner Fuels Cowgirls To Easy Win At TLU

SEGUIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball team won its 20th game for the eleventh straight season as the HSU defeated Texas Lutheran 102-58 at Memorial Gym in Seguin Saturday afternoon.

The game was never in doubt as the Cowgirls jumped out to a 15-0 lead. The Cowgirls pushed the lead to 31-7 and led 51-33 at halftime.

Senior Mollie Brawner, playing just down the road from her hometown of New Braunfels, had another stellar shooting performance tied her career high with 28 points. She hit 7-of-9 3-pointers. Fellow senior Kristen Harris set her on career-best with 17 points in her final career regular-season game. She also had a career-best eight assists.

Lindsey Newcombe had 16 points and 18 rebounds and Haylee Allen also had 17 points. Kenzie Tarpley, who got her first career start filling in for an injured Bo Warm, had nine assists.

The Cowgirls scored 51 points in each half and for the game shot 33-of-63 for 52.4 percent. HSU hit 11-of-18 from 3-point range. HSU had an assist on 27 of 33 baskets.

Defensively, the Cowgirls limited Texas Lutheran to 27.4 percent shooting and outrebounded the Lady Bulldogs 60-30. Jennifer Munoz had 16 points to pace Texas Lutheran.

HSU is now 20-5 on the season and 16-5 in ASC play. TLU finished 7-18 overall and 5-16 in conference play, after not winning a game last season. The Cowgirls will play Louisiana College in the first round of the ASC Tournament on Friday at McMurry. Times have not been set, but an afternoon game is likely.
