Cowgirls Roll Over Sul Ross State

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ women’s basketball used a 16-0 run early in the game to open a big lead and never looked back in a 91-44 win over Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday at the Mabee Complex.

With the game tied at 6-6 early on, HSU scored the next 16 points to lead 22-6 and the Cowgirls never led by less than 13 the rest of the game. The Cowgirls had played 14 players and pushed the lead to 41-19 at halftime.

The Cowgirls played all 15 players in the game and, 14 of them scored and all 15 had at lead one rebound. HSU limited Sul Ross State to 12 field goals in the game and just 21.8 shooting in the game.

Five Cowgirls hit double figures in the game with Kara Looten leading the way with 11 points. Whitney Joslin, Becky Taylor, Bo Warm and Jasmine Lewis all had 10 points for the Cowgirls. Liz Pereya led Sul Ross State with 14 points.

The Cowgirls are now 13-10 on the year and 10-9 in ASC action. Sul Ross State fell to 2-21 overall and 2-17 in league play. HSU closes its season with home games against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran next weekend at the Mabee Complex.
