Cowgirls Move To 2-0 With Win At Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 62-57 win at Southwestern on Saturday night in Georgetown.

Jasmine McClellan scored eight straight points in the first quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, to give HSU an early 10-4 lead. The Pirates closed the gap to tie the game at 12 after the first quarter.

HSU trailed 21-17 when freshman Deontae Ingram scored six straight points to give the Cowgirls a 23-22 lead with 4:29 to play in the half and HSU led 29-27 at halftime.

The Cowgirls opened its biggest lead of the game at 45-33 with 3:07 to play in the third quarter and took a 48-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

Southwestern chipped away and cut the deficit to 58-57 with 1:38 to play on a Tori Carraway lay-up. HSU then scored the last four points of the game. Heidi Schroeder hit a lay-up with :36 to play and Kayla Brown sealed the game with two free throws with :02 to play.

McClellan led the Cowgirls with 16 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Ingram had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Carraway led the Pirates with 17 points and Olivia Podaras added 14.

The Cowgirls are 2-0 and Southwestern fell to 0-2. HSU will next be in action next Saturday at Trinity.
