Cowgirls Fall To Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season, falling 74-49 to Trinity in the TU Thanksgiving Classic in San Antonio.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick 15-3 lead in the first quarter, but the Cowgirls narrowed the deficit to five on a couple of occasions and trailed 20-14 after the first quarter.

Trinity opened the game up in the second quarter with a 13-0 run to take a 42-21 lead and led 44-24 at halftime. The Tigers scored the first seven points of the third quarter.

HSU forced 21 turnovers in the game, but struggled shooting. The Cowgirls shot just 14-for-54 for the game for 25.9 percent.

The Cowgirls held their own on the boards with the bigger Tigers losing the battle of the boards 37-36 and HSU had 11 offensive rebounds.

Danie Mabry led the Cowgirls with 10 points and Kayla Brown added nine points and 13 rebounds.

The Cowgirls return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when it plays Schreiner at Trinity. The Tigers improved to 4-0 on the year and the Cowgirls are now 2-1.
