Cowgirls Go Cold, Fall To Schreiner
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team went cold from the field and Schreiner rallied for a 62-51 win on Sunday afternoon at Sams Gym at Trinity University in San Antonio.

The Cowgirls closed the first quarter on a 10-1 run and led 18-12 after the first period. HSU pushed the lead out to as many as eight on a couple of occasions in the second quarter and led 30-25 at halftime.

In the second half, the Cowgirls went frigid from the field connection on just 4-of-29 shots in the half with many from point blank range.

It allowed the Mountaineers to surge ahead in the third quarter as SU led 41-37 going to the fourth quarter. Schreiner scored the first eight points of the quarter to take a 49-37 lead and the Cowgirls could not recover.

Kayla Brown led the Cowgirls with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Heidi Schroeder had 10 points and eight rebounds and Taylor Gaffney had a career-best 10 points.

Sabriyyah Fennell led a balanced Schreiner attack with 16 points.

The Cowgirls are now 2-2 and Schreiner improved to 1-5 on the year. HSU will open ASC play on Thursday against East Texas Baptist at 5:30 at the Mabee Complex.
