Cowgirls Fall Late At LeTourneau
LONGVIEW, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball dropped a hard fought 76-72 game to LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference action on Monday night at Solheim Arena in Longview.

The Cowgirls had their best quarter of the season in the first quarter as they took a 27-14 lead after the first frame. HSU pushed the lead out to 33-16 early in the second quarter but the Yellowjackets battled back to 35-31 with :54 to play in the half.

Kourtney Holyfield then hit a 3-pointer and HSU led 38-31 at halftime. The difference in the game came in the third quarter when the Cowgirls turned the ball over eight times and LeTourneau turned those into nine points to take a 53-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

HSU took a 65-61 lead with 4:13 to play but Bria Goodman came up with two straight layups and a pair of free throws after three straight HSU turnovers and LeTourneau took a lead they would not relinquish.

LeTourneau had a 37-22 advantage in points off turnovers in the game. The contest featured 10 ties and four lead changes.

Holyfield had 17 for the Cowgirls and freshman Taylor Gaffney had a career-best 15. Danie Mabry added 13 points and Kayla Brown had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Crystal Jones led LeTourneau with 20 points and LaTanya Dukes added 14.

HSU is now 3-5 on the year and 1-3 in ASC play. LeTourneau improved to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action. HSU will return home for a 5:30 game against Southwestern on Thursday.
