Cowgirls Fall To Comets In ASC Hoops

RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team closed American Southwest Conference cross division play with a 78-59 loss at UT Dallas on Saturday afternoon at the UTD Activity Center in Richardson.

HSU jumped out to an early 13-5 lead in the first quarters, but the Comets used a 9-0 run to take a 14-13 lead. UTD led 21-18 after the first quarter.

The Comets gradually pushed the lead out to a 36-25 lead with 1L59 to play in the first half but Ja'Lee Carver hit back-to-back 3-pointers to narrow the deficit and HSU trailed 39-33 at halftime.

UTD hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to push the lead out to 14 and the Cowgirls never were able to make a run at them.

Kayla Brown led the Cowgirls with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ja'Lee Carver had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Micaela Gonzalez paced four Comets in double figures with 20 points. Alyssa Crockett had 14, Zavier Landry 12 and Kayla Reinhart 10.

HSU is now 6-8 overall and 2-4 in ASC play. UTD improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in conference action.

The Cowgirls will return home to the Mabee Complex to open American Southwest Conference West Division play against league-leading Howard Payne on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
