Cowgirls’ Rally Falls Short
ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team rallied all the way back from a 20-point deficit to tie the game but eventually lost 80-75 to Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference at the Mabee Complex.

Sul Ross State came out of the locker room on fire, hitting 7-of-11 shot from 3-point range and taking a 26-13 lead. The Lobos pushed the lead out 49-29 right before halftime before Danie Mabry made a 3-pointer to make it 49-26 at the break.

The Cowgirls scored the first 10 points of the second half to cut the deficit to 49-42 at the 8:02 mark of the third quarter. Sul Ross regained its composure and pushed the lead back out to 63-48.

In the fourth quarter, the Cowgirls chipped away at the deficit and finally tied the game at 70 on a Kayla Brown offensive rebound and bucket at the 2:33 mark.

Sul Ross State then scored the next six points, the most crucial came as Taylor Gass beat the shot clock buzzer with :29 on a 3-pointer.

All five Cowgirl starters finished the game in double figures. Kourtney Holyfield had 16 points, Heidi Schroeder and Ja'Lee Carver had 14 each, Mabry had 13 and Brown had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Carver also added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

The Lobos had five players in double figures. Katy Boren had 16 points and Lindsey Hearn added 15. The two combined for nine 3-pointers in the game.  

HSU is now 6-10 on the year and 2-6 in ASC play and saw its 38-game win streak against Sul Ross State snapped. The Lobos improved to 8-9 overall and 5-3 in league play. The eight wins are the most for the Lobos since the 2004 season.
