ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor 88-79 in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Thursday evening.
The Cru opened up an 11-point lead midway through the second quarter and led 45-36 at halftime. The teams played even in the second half.
The Cowgirls shot 55.6 percent from 3-point range and outscored the Cru 18-17 at the free throw line. HSU also had a 41-36 advantage on the boards. The difference in the game was turnovers. The Cowgirls turned the ball over 20 times compared to nine for the Cru and UMHB turned it into a 26-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
Hannah Holt led a balanced Cru attack with 20 points. Alicia Blackwell added 19 points and 10 rebounds.
HSU is now 4-10 on the year and 2-5 in ASC play. UMHB improved to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in ASC play. The Cowgirls will host Concordia at 2 p.m. Saturday.
