ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team stayed in the race for a spot in the American Southwest Conference tournament with an 83-55 win over Sul Ross State on Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.
The loss snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Cowgirls and keep their hopes alive for a spot in the conference tournament. HSU would need a win over Howard Payne or McMurry in the final two conference games and Sul Ross State would need to lose out.
The Cowgirls jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the game. HSU led 19-10 after the first quarter and pushed the lead out to 41-28 at halftime.
Annie Lenoir led the Lobos with 11 points and Keilah Williams scored 10.
HSU is now 5-17 overall and 3-12 in conference play. Sul Ross State fell to 6-16 overall and 4-10 in league play. The Cowgirls will host Howard Payne on Saturday at 2 p.m.
