

Cowgirls Shutout Howard Payne, 8-0

BROWNWOOD, Texas — Hardin-Simmons blanked Howard
Payne 8-0 in American Southwest Conference women’s soccer
action at the HPU Soccer Complex in Brownwood on Saturday
afternoon.
The 18th-ranked Cowgirls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard
as Katie Kuykendall connected 3:05 into the game. Amy Kuykendall
and Austin Ricker added first half goals for HSU to make it 3-0 at
halftime.
Taylor Thigpen scored in the 54th minute and Carlyn Powers added a
goal off a corner kick in the 61st minute to make it 5-0. Ricker
scored again in the 71st minute. It was the second time in the game
she scored on an assist from Mickey Rogers. Rogers did the honors
herself in the 73rd minute and Chelsea Flores made it 8-0 off a
corner kick in the 77th minute.
HSU outshot HPU 26-1 in the game and 15-0 on-goal. HSU has
outscored opponents 81-4 on the year and in ASC action they have
outscored the opponents by a score of 71-1.
Christi Carr recorded the shutout in goal for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls are now 14-1 on the year and 10-0 in ASC action and
now have a 117-game unbeaten streak in ASC action. Howard Payne
fell to 7-6-2 overall and 6-3-2 in league play. HSU closes the
season with home games against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran next
weekend.
