Cowgirls Claim ASC Regular-Season Title

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
women’s soccer team claimed the American Southwest Conference
regular-season title and will host the ASC Championships next
weekend after a 2-0 win over Texas Lutheran on Senior Day Saturday
at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The Cowgirls scored at the 12:29 mark when senior Jordan Morley
scored off a Megan Ryan assist.
It would stay 1-0 until the 54 minute mark when the Cowgirls
talented freshman duo of Katie Kuykendall and Taylor Thigpen would
hook up on a scoring play with Thigpen hammering home her 14th goal
of the year and fourth in two games. The assist was the 18th of the
year for Kuykendall.
The Cowgirl defense was again stellar, as it allowed only two
shots on goal all day and senior goalkeeper was there for both
saves as she recorded the shutout in her final regular season game.
HSU outshot TLU 25-2 in the contest.
Morley, Carr and Lindsay Cogburn played their final regular-season
home game for the Cowgirls and were honored before the game.
HSU has now won 16 straight games to move to 16-1 on the year. HSU
went 12-0 in the ASC to move its ASC unbeaten streak to 119 games
in a row. TLU finished its season with a 6-7-3 mark and went 4-5-3
in ASC action.
HSU will play Saturday in the semifinals of the ASC Tournament,
after earning a first-round bye.
