The Cowgirls jumped on the board just 6:40 into the game when all-American Katie Kuykendall served a perfect corner kick on to the head of all-American Courtney Cramer and she pounded it home.
It remained 1-0 until Trinity's Kelsey Falcone scored her third goal of the weekend in the 62nd minute on an Emily Jorgens assist.
The game went to two overtimes but neither team had many scoring threats until HSU's Lexi Stinson recorded a late save to preserve the tie.
Trinity outshot the Cowgirls 14-8 and 5-1 on goal. HSU had 11 corner kicks in the game to just one for Trinity. Stinson had four saves for the Cowgirls and Katie Garrett did not have to make a save in 120 minutes in the goal.
Both teams are 1-0-1. HSU hosts Wayland Baptist next Saturday.
