TYLER, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' eighth-ranked women's soccer team received a goal in the 80th minute from Kenne Kessler to beat Rhodes, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Tyler.
The Cowgirls dominated the possession the entire match and outshot the Lynx, 17-3, but RC goalkeeper Anna Maldonado had kept HSU off the board with nine big saves.
Maddie McAdams started the play with a long throw-in up the right side that bounced over the head of Kami Jones and her defender and Jones was able to use her speed to get to the ball. Jones then slotted a perfect pass to a streaking Kessler, who then buried her second goal of the young season.
The Cowgirl defense was its typical dominating unit, allowing three shots in the contest and none of them were on frame. HSU also had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
HSU is now 2-0 on the season and will open its home slate on Friday at 11 a.m. against Wartburg College. Rhodes fell to 0-2 on the year.
