Cowgirls Continue Hot Start

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 7-0 win over Aurora University on Sunday afternoon at Trinity University in San Antonio.

Junior Kenne Kessler had a hat trick for the Cowgirls with three goals. She now has six goals in the first four games of the year. She has scored 39 career goals and has moved into a tie for 10th place on the career goal-scoring list for the Cowgirls.

HSU dominated the game from the outset and had a 30-2 advantage in shots and a 19-0 lead in shots on goal. Kessler scored in the 13th minute off a corner kick that was sent in by Josey Meyer and one-touched by Kami Jones to Kessler for the goal. She scored again in the 16th minute off another Jones assist.

Evan Pipkin gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead in the 34th minute off a nice assist from freshman Madelyn Dowell and Sofia Quijano scored her first career goal at the 39:24 mark of the first half.

Kessler scored her third goal at the 57:55 mark, Elly Green scored her first career goal in the 62nd minute and Quijano added the final tally for HSU in the 84th minute.

The Cowgirls played four goalkeepers in the contest, but none saw a shot on goal. Caitlin Christiansen worked the first half. Casey Carrillo, Kayla Gable and Alyssa Sucrese split the second half. It was the first career action for Gable and Sucrese.

The Cowgirls are now 4-0 on the year and will open conference play on Thursday at 4 p.m. against Sul Ross State in Alpine. Aurora fell to 0-4 on the year.
