RICHARDSON, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' sixth-ranked women's soccer team scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the game and held on for a 2-1 win over Texas-Dallas on Thursday evening in Richardson.
Kenne Kessler got on the end of a Josey Meyer cross in the 11th minute and finished for her 25th goal of the season. Taylor Bernal gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead at the 15:22 mark when she dribbled down the left end line and beat Monica Dallacasa.
The Comets inched within one goal in the 70th minute when Maya Fuller finished off a loose ball in front of the goal.
HSU outshot the Comets 20-13 in the match overall and 10-5 in shots on target. The Cowgirls also had a 4-0 lead in corner kicks.
Christiansen had four saves in the match and remained undefeated in goal. Dallacasa had seven saves for the Comets.
The Cowgirls are now 12-0 on the year and 8-0 in ASC play. UTD fell to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in league play. HSU will play at Howard Payne on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final road game of the regular season.
