ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team advanced to the American Southwest Conference final with a 7-0 win over UT Tyler in semifinal action on Friday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
HSU wasted no time in putting the game away early. All-American Kami Jones broke free and Kenne Kessler hit her with a through ball and Jones finished just 1:19 into the game. It was the first start for Jones since she injured her knee on Sept. 23 against East Texas Baptist.
Kessler then scored her 33rd goal of the season in the 15th minute off a great corner kick play. Josey Meyer served into the box and Kirsten Parrish headed it down to Kessler who finished to make it 2-0.
Olivia Hartman scored in the 24th minute when Kessler hit her with a cross into the box and she finished for her sixth goal of the season. Parrish finished a penalty kick in the 35th minute and Ellie Ratliff took a free kick from Tori Waters and finished for her first career goal to give the Cowgirls a 5-0 lead.
Caitlin Christiansen worked the first half in goal and Casey Carrillo and Kayla Gable both saw action in the second half. All three had one save each. HSU had a 17-12 advantage in shots and 12-3 in shots on goal.
HSU is now 18-0 on the year and UT Tyler closes its season with an 11-5-1 record.
The Cowgirls will be looking for its 15th straight ASC title on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Cru advanced with a 2-1 win over UT Dallas.
There will be a free tailgate party for HSU fans at noon on Sunday at the field. The time changes overnight on Saturday so fans are advised to remember to plan accordingly.
