HSU Wins ASC Women's Soccer Crown

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team won the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win over Texas Lutheran, Saturday night at Shelton Stadium in Abilene.

The Cowgirls' Cathy Castagnos hammered home a 22-yard shot in the fifth minute on an assist from Kala Chalman.

Chalman then added the second goal in the 35th minute off a deflection. HSU outshot Texas Lutheran 15-5 in the game, including 8-0 in the first half.

The Cowgirl defense was smothering the entire game and Rachel Goold recorded her second straight shutout in goal with three saves.

Hardin-Simmons improved to 16-3 on the season and advances to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. Texas Lutheran finishes its season with a 12-6-1 mark.

The win marks the fourth straight time that the Cowgirls have hosted the ASC Tournament that they have won the event and the fifth time they have won it overall.
