Cowgirls Blank Sul Ross State Twice

ALPINE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons’ softball team opened American Southwest Conference play in style with a pair of shutout run-rule victories over Sul Ross State, 15-0, 8-0, Friday night at Lady Lobo Field in Alpine.

In the first game, the Cowgirls took advantage of five Lobo errors scoring six runs in the fourth inning.
Kourtney Bailey had an RBI bunt single, Amy Meyer had a two-RBI hit and Shayla Lee had an RBI on a ground out.

They added two more runs in the sixth inning after Laura Rawlings hit a one-out double and came into score on a two-run home run by Lacie Cole.

Laura Rawlings threw six innings of shutout ball allowing only two hits.

In the nightcap, Taylor Namey had an RBI double in the first and she later scored on a wild pitch in the inning. In the second Courtney Clark had an infield RBI single to make it 3-0. In the third, HSU had eight runs on six hits.

Lee had an RBI single in the inning, Cera Beasley had an RBI single, Clark an RBI double and Namey had a three-run home run. The Cowgirls also scored on a couple of wild pitches in the inning.

Ashton Sikes had an RBI triple in the fourth inning, Kelsey Evans had an RBI single, and Clark an RBI triples as the Cowgirls scored four runs in the fourth.

Freshman Sarah Shurbet shutout the Lobos allowing only six hits, while striking out six batters. Courtney Clark, Taylor Namey, and Cera Beasley were perfect at the plate. Clark went 3-3 with two runs scored and 3 RBI. Namey went 3-3 with three runs and four RBI. Beasley went 2-2 with a run and an RBI.

The Cowgirls (7-7, 2-0 in the ASC West) will play the Lobos (1-20, 0-7 in the ASC West) in a double-header tomorrow at noon at Lady Lobo Field.
