

Cowgirls Sweep Texas Lutheran
ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons softball team swept a
doubleheader from Texas Lutheran 13-0 and 12-2 in a matchup of
American Southwest Conference leaders Saturday afternoon at Ellis
Field.
Shayla Lee gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 first-inning lead in the second
game with a two-run home run. TLU added a run in the second and HSU
came right back with three runs in the third inning. Callie Rice,
Katie Shurbet and Kourtney Bailey each had bases loaded walks in
the inning.
HSU added seven runs on eight hits in the fourth inning. Lee,
Meyer and Shurbet each had RBI singles and Cera Beasley added a
two-run triple. Courtney Clark and Lace Cole also had RBI
singles.
Sarah Shurbet (5-1) went three innings for the win and Lacie Cole
worked two innings in relief. Clark had three hits in the game and
Lee was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
In the first game, the Cowgirls got a bases loaded hit by pitch by
Amy Meyer to pick up a run in the first inning. HSU added three
more runs in the second inning. Taylor Namey had a two-run double
in the inning and Shayla Lee had an RBI later in the inning.
HSU busted open the game with six runs in the third inning.
Courtney Clark had an RBI single in the
inning, Laura Rawlings had an RBI single, Shayla Lee had an RBI on
a ground ball, Meyer had a two-run double in the inning.
In the fourth inning HSU scored three more runs on a three-run
home run by Taylor Namey.
Laura Rawlings went the distance in the circle as she allowed only
three hits to improve to 3-3 on the year. Namey led the offense
with three hits, three runs scored and five RBIs. Meyer added three
RBIs.
The Cowgirls improved to 11-7 on the year and 6-0 in ASC West
action. Texas Lutheran fell to 9-9 on the year and 4-2 in league
play. The teams will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
