Cowgirls Sweep TWU To Move Streak To 14

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons’ softball team swept a
non-conference doubleheader from Texas Wesleyan by scores of 5-2
and 8-1 Friday afternoon at Ellis Field to move its winning streak
to 14 games.
In the first game, the Cowgirls scored two runs in the bottom of
the first inning. Taylor Namey doubled home Courtney Clark who had
singled and Shayla Lee singled in Clark.
HSU added three runs in the third, scoring its runs on a wild pitch
an error and a ground out after the first three batters reached on
singles. TWU scored a run in the seventh on a Tara Martinez ground
out.
Laura Rawlings went the distance in the circle for the Cowgirls to
improve to 5-3 on the year.
In the second game, the Cowgirls scored seven runs in the bottom of
the first inning. Courtney Clark and Kayla Scaramuzzo had singles
to lead off the inning and Taylor Namey scored clark with a double.
Shayla Lee followed with a sacrifice fly and Amy Meyer had a RBI
double. Callie Rice had a bunt single and Katie Shubert walked to
load the bases and Kourtney Bailey followed with a grand slam to
make it 7-0.
TWU scored their run in the third inning on a RBI double by
Christina Kelley. HSU received a Lee home run in the fourth.
Lacie Cole worked three innings for the Cowgirls in the circle and
Katie Shurbet worked four innings of relief to pick up her 10th win
of the season. She allowed just two hits and struck out three. Cami
Riley took the loss for TWU.
Clark, Meyer, Rice and Bailey each had two hits for the
Cowgirls.
HSU is now 19-7 on the year and TWU fell to 17-16. HSU will play at
Concordia on Thursday.
