Cowgirls Sweep Dallas To Move Streak To 16

ABILENE, Texas
– Hardin-Simmons’ softball team swept the
University of Dallas, 3-1 and 5-4 to extend its winning streak to
16 games, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Ellis
Field.
In the first game, HSU scored single runs in the second, third and
fourth inning. Shayla Lee had a solo home run in the second,
Courtney Clark had a sacrifice fly in the third and Kourtney Bailey
had a squeeze bunt RBI in the fourth.
Dallas scored their only run in the fifth inning on a double
steal.
Sarah Shurbet went the distance in the first game for the Cowgirls
as she scattered six hits and struck out 11. Michaela Coghlan
allowed three hits and three runs for UD to get the loss.
In the second game, Sammy Lawless had an RBI double for UD in the
top of the first. HSU came back with three runs in the second
inning. Laura Rawlings had a two-run double in the inning and Clark
had an RBI single.
Dallas came back with three runs in the third inning. Mari Ramirez
had an RBI double in the inning and the other two runs scored on an
error. HSU tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third with an
RBI single by Amy Meyer.
HSU scored the winning run in the fifth when Taylor Namey led off
with a double and scored on a fielder’s choice by Meyer.
Shurbet got the win in relief or the Cowgirls to move to 12-1 on
the season. Jessica Swaja went the distance for UD to take the
loss. Clark had three hits for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls are now 21-7 and Dallas fell to 15-14. HSU will play
at Concordia on Thursday in ASC play.
