Cogdell Hits Walkoff To Beat UTD

FARMER’s BRANCH, Texas —
Hardin-Simmons’ softball got a walk-off home run from Kelsey
Cogdell to beat Texas-Dallas 7-6 to salvage a first-day split after
falling 5-0 to Texas-Tyler at the American Southwest Conference
First Pitch Tournament in Farmer’s Branch.
The Cowgirls trailed UTD 6-4 going to the bottom of the sixth
inning but Lacie Cole had a one-out single and freshman Shelby
McIntyre followed with a two-run home run to tie the game. Cogdell
then won the game in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff home
run to left.
HSU had taken a 4-2 lead with a four-run, six-hit bottom of the
first inning. Cogdell had an RBI double and Taylor Namey and Cole
had RBI singles in the inning. UTD retook the lead with three runs
in the fourth and a single run in the sixth.
Cogsdell had three hits and McIntyre, Cole and Jodi Hierholzer each
had two hits for the Cowgirls. Cole got the win for the Cowgirls
with an inning of scoreless relief. Sarah Shurbet and Laura
Rawlings each worked three innings and each allowed three runs.
In the game against sixth-ranked Texas-Tyler, the Cowgirls outhit
UTT 7-5, but left nine runners on base in a 5-0 loss.
UTT scored two runs in the first on a walk, RBI triple and a RBI
groundout in the top of the first. The Patriots added three runs on
three hits in the sixth inning.
Megann Lewis (2-1) took the loss for the Cowgirls, allowing five
runs in five and one-third innings. Kimber Bossom earned the
shutout, scattering seven hits over seven innings of work. Meagan
Ulmer had two of the seven Cowgirls hits.
HSU is now 6-1 on the year and will play the University of the
Ozarks at 10 a.m. and Mississippi College at 5 p.m. on
Saturday.
