Cowgirls Move Win Streak To 10
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' softball team swept Trinity 5-1 and 6-4 to move its winning streak to 10 games in non-conference action on Friday afternoon in San Antonio.
In the first game, Megann Lewis went the distance threw a two-hitter and did not allow an earned run, while striking out six batters to move to 6-4 on the year. Colbie DeVost allowed five runs on eight hits to take the loss and fall to 4-8 on the year.
Clay, Hierholzer and Wallace each had two hits for the Cowgirls and Clay had four RBIs for the Cowgirls.
HSU took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap. Shelby McIntyre scored on a wild pitch and two more runs scored on an error. In the fifth HSU added three more runs. Blair Wallace had a two-run double and Megan McCormick had an RBI fielder's choice.
Trinity scored four runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Kayleigh Kinlaw had an RBI single and Megan Russell had a two-run double in the inning.
Sarah Shurbet got the win for the Cowgirls in the nightcap. She is 4-4 on the year after allowing six hits and four runs in four and one-third innings. Laura Rawlings threw two and two-third innings of relief to earn the save. Sydney Friday took the loss for Trinity. She allowed six runs on seven hits in the complete-game effort to fall to 3-7.
Meyer had two hits to pace the Cowgirl seven-hit attack.
The Cowgirls are now 13-9 on the year and Trinity fell to 7-15. HSU returns to action on Monday when they play Mississippi College in Forney.
